EHMA PIE – A call for ideas to debate complex health management topics
Do you have an idea for new approaches to health management that you believe needs discussion, but is not in a suitable format for an abstract?
EHMA PIE is a new initiative being launched this year for the EHMA Annual Conference. It is designed to give space to discussions that are Provocative, Innovative and Encouraging (PIE) and help shape the future of health management.
Through EHMA PIE, we aim to address complex topics, spark provocative discussions, and foster connections across the entire health management ecosystem.
EHMA has a long history of bringing together health managers, researchers, academics, practitioners, and policymakers to take stock of current challenges and discuss solutions. We recognize that this work has never been more important, and therefore the EHMA PIE initiative has been created to put extra attention on connecting professionals and supporting health systems.
EHMA PIE is a space for open discussion. We are looking for 5-minute presentations, although some may be selected for a longer focus of up to 15 minutes.
They should present:
- ideas that can contribute to the advancement of health management;
- topics on current and future needs of health management in Europe and worldwide;
- innovative ideas on how to tackle health management challenges.
Submissions can be based on experiences that are worth highlighting, new hypotheses, or ambitious ideas you want to test with peers. Differently from abstracts, submitted ideas do not need to include research results.
This call is open to all. We welcome submissions from the entire healthcare ecosystem.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, 23 July 2021.
If you have already submitted an abstract, you can also submit an idea for an EHMA PIE.9
All EHMA PIE submissions should be in English and between 100 and 500 words. Submission must be made online on the EHMA PIE online form.
You can submit ideas and proposals for discussions in a written format under the overall Conference theme, Health Management: managing the present and shaping the future, and within one of the 6 sub-themes:
- Governance and leadership
- Person-centeredness and care integration
- Managing the digital transformation
- Improving healthcare access and outcomes
- Environmental sustainability of health services
- Health workforce

EHMA PIE proposals will be reviewed and clustered by an independent committee.
All proposal submitters will be notified of the outcome via email by Friday, 30 July 2021.
To confirm participation and attendance, presenters must register to the Conference by 6 August 2021.
All presenters must register via the online Registration System on the www.2021.ehmaconference.org. Please do read carefully the Terms of Service and cancellation policy applying to EHMA 2021.

EHMA PIE will take place alongside abstract driven sessions during the EHMA Conference on 15-17 September 2021.
Received submissions will be gathered in thematic sessions with a maximum of 5 ideas per session.
A moderator will be present during the session to introduce the presenters, moderate the discussion, and stimulate connections.
All ideas for the EHMA PIE will be collected in a virtual book and made available on the conference’s website, platform and social media. All presenter will receive a certificate of attendance as speakers.
